Robert George Kelly
1822 - 1910

Robert George Kelly (1822-1910) was born in Dublin and was educated at private school at Stranraer. He studied art at the
schools of the Royal Dublin Society and the Royal Hibernian Academy.
In 1853 he left Dublin and settled firstly in Manchester and then in 1858 he moved to Birkenhead, where he became Art
Master and Manager of the School of Art.
He contributed regularly to the Royal Hibernian Academy and was an occasional exhibitor in the Royal Academy between
1856 and 1888. However, in about 1894 he discontinued actively painting and lived quietly in Chester until his death.
He was the father of Robert Talbot Kelly R.I., a well known artist and writer about Egyptian subjects.
