Roy Abell ARCA, RBSA
Roy Abell was born in Birmingham in 1931. He attended the College of Art in his home city between 1947-1952, winning the
Jackson Travelling Scholarship. He then went on to The Royal College of Art, London, from 1954-1957. He was included in
Jack Beddington's book, Young Artist of Promise. He taught at Birmingham College of Art from 1957-1982, being made Head
of the Painting School in 1974. He exhibited in many solo and joint exhibitions. Birmingham City Art Gallery and The National
Museum of Wales hold collections of his work. He was notable as a landscape painter, his oils tending more towards abstract
with an impasto technique.
