Artist

John Henry Boel (fl.c. 1890-1910)

John Henry Boel was a British Landscape Painter. He painted in oils and less frequently in
watercolour. Boel concentrated mainly on landscapes, figures and coastal scenes. His
landscapes often depicted the Scottish highlands. John Henry Boel was a very popular
artist during his time. He was a prolific artist and his work is often seen on the market.
Exhibited 1884-1922. He is catalogued as both H B Joel and J H Boel (q.v) as the signature
is monogrammed with initials and is difficult to read. There is some evidence that Joel was
his actual name. The early examples painted in the 1890's are usually dated.
