George Cattermole

Born in Norfolk.
George Cattermole was a friend of Charles Dickens, as well as many other literary figures.
Having worked, at the age of 14 years, as an architectural and topographical designer, he progressed into watercolour
painting, becoming an associate of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1822 and a full member in 1833.
He was largely employed by publishers and collaborated on illustrations for Dickens' The Old Curiosity Shop and Barnaby
Rudge.
