Barbara Brassey was born in December 1911 to Danish parents, her father being Leonard Jorgensen. Her early work was signed Barbara Jorgensen.
She married Lt-Col Herbert Campbell Westmoreland in 1934 and they produced a son named Charles. In 1963 she married for a second time, the 2nd Baron Brassey of Apethorpe.
Barbara was an accomplished artist in oil, watercolours and gouache, who studied at the Salisbury Art School. She went on to win a scholarship at the Royal Academy School and it was there, that she won a silver award for drawing.
Barbara's passion was all things to do with nature. Her friends included the two great wildlife artists, George Edward Lodge and Lionel Edwards, who both encouraged her to paint in the Highlands of Scotland. Barbara exhibited widely around the world and was even exhibiting in 2004, when her work was displayed at Burlington House Gallery in Piccadilly.
She continued to paint until 2009, the year before her death.
